Player notes
John finds Abigail knitting in the living room at Beecher's Hope. Jack calls them to the porch, where Sadie Adler has arrived. Abigail welcomes Sadie in, and they later eat together outside. Sadie explains that she works as a bounty hunter and offers John a job. Abigail objects until she learns John had already been taking such work while she and Jack were away. Sadie also admits she is tracking Micah, which Abigail refuses to countenance.
The bounty is Marshall Thurwell, an accountant who robbed his employer in Rhodes and fled to West Elizabeth. Abigail allows John to go after this relatively safe target, provided he comes home, but forbids any pursuit of Micah. John and Sadie ride to Tall Trees. On the way, John tells Sadie he intends to marry Abigail with the ring Arthur once meant for Mary Linton. At Thurwell's camp, they find tracks leading to a ruined cabin and a mauled corpse outside it.
Thurwell calls from inside, terrified of a monster nearby. He emerges just as a huge, scarred grizzly charges John and Sadie. It mauls John before Sadie drives it away with a shot. Angry at Thurwell's cowardice, Sadie knocks him unconscious and John binds him. On the road to Blackwater, they kill two bounty hunters trying to take Thurwell. Sadie tells John she will pursue Micah alone, but promises to tell him when she finds him. They deliver Thurwell to the Blackwater Police Department, and Sadie sends John's payment to the bank.
Trivia
- โIt is impossible to kill the bear, no matter the type of ammo, amount of shots, or weaponry used.
- โAfter the bear attacks John, there will be a short moment of time when John is lying down and pointing the gun at the bear. The player can actually shoot the bear during this time even though the game doesn't require you to.
- โIn the earlier patches when the bear starts its charge against the player, it always equipped John's Cattleman Revolver regardless of what weapon you actually had holstered. In the current patch it DOES let players use their current weapon but swaps back to John's Cattleman Revolver or Mauser Pistol during and after the cutscene.
- โIf the player has all weapons with all possible upgrades offered by the gunsmith, the game will automatically swap the player's weapon of choice to the M1899 Pistol.
- โDue to its size, location, and strikingly similar appearance, it could be possible that the bear in this mission is Brumas the Bear, a legendary animal from Redemption. It also bears resemblance to the Legendary Bharati Grizzly Bear due to the scars on its body.
- โWhen Abigail asks John how many times she has to bury him, this may be a foreshadowing to John's future demise as Abigail and Jack bury John's body.
- โThis is the only mission in the game in which John uses the f-word, quoting "fucking monster", as he is recovering from surviving the bear attack.
