Player notes
Arthur meets John Marston at Bacchus Station to carry out Dutch's plan to cripple army transport. As they prepare the dynamite, John admits he no longer understands Dutch and recalls being left behind during the Saint Denis bank robbery. Arthur tells him to take Abigail and Jack and leave the gang. John hesitates over abandoning loyalty, but Arthur insists that he must run and not look back.
They load two crates onto a handcar and pump it onto Bacchus Bridge. At its centre, Arthur and John lower the crates over the side, then climb beneath the track. They take bundles of dynamite from the crates and fix them to the bridge's pillars, wiring the charges to a detonator. A train appears before they finish, forcing them back up to the handcar.
Arthur and John drive the handcar away from the oncoming train and leap clear at the end of the bridge in Cumberland Forest. Arthur follows John to the detonator and sets off the charges, bringing down the bridge's middle span. Afterwards, Arthur again urges John to leave with his family and says they have been risking their lives for an idea that no longer works. John says Abigail may know where Dutch hid the gang's money. They part at Bacchus Station.

Trivia
- โThe mission's dialogue varies depending on the player's Honor level:
- โIf the player has high Honor, Arthur says how leaving the gang would allow John to "give something to Jack." If the player has low Honor, Arthur tells John: "There's no reason for you to be sticking around at this point."
- โWhen John asks Arthur about loyalty, Arthur replies: "Be loyal to what matters," if he has high Honor, but with: "Thatโs long been broken," if his Honor is low.
- โWhen John asks Arthur what he will do, high Honor Arthur will not be forthcoming and say: "I'll be okay. But do it, for me. And it would make me... feel... good, if that makes any sense." If Arthur's Honor is low, he says that he will stay in the gang and talk about the "'code' that they had".
- โIf Arthur's Honor is high, he says that they are fighting for "An idea that don't work no more," whereas low Honor Arthur says that they are fighting for "A silly idea. It don't even exist."
- โAfter saying that he is "seeing things lot more clearly now," and that he "wishes things were different..." high Honor Arthur says: "But it weren't us who changed," while low Honor Arthur says: "...but I ain't being taken for a fool no more!"
- โThere are two bits of foreshadowing quotes in this mission that Arthur will remember during his final ride to camp in the "Red Dead Redemption" mission if his Honor is high:
- โAt the beginning, John questions Dutch's loyalty, saying, "I feel like I just don't know Dutch anymore."
- โWhen John asks Arthur about loyalty, Arthur replies, "You know, all that ever mattered to me was loyalty. It was all I knew. It was all I ever believed in." (first and last parts of this line)
- โAfter this mission, Bacchus Bridge will be destroyed and unable to cross on foot nor horse. However, trains can still be seen at certain places as if it's still intact, as one can be stolen from Annesburg. The bridge will be rebuilt and usable again after Epilogue Part 1.
- โAdditionally, until said chapter is completed, players will be unable to buy tickets to travel by trains.
- โWhen the oncoming train hits Arthur and John's sidecar, it seems to be moving much faster than it was before, as it slows down when the player is escaping it.
- โIf the player shoots the crates of spare dynamite next to the ladder, nothing will happen. However, it is still possible to blow up the dynamite via the usage of more dynamite from the player's inventory. Apparently, the crates contain infinite dynamite because when they start exploding, they don't stop. Rapid-fire explosions will keep triggering until Arthur dies, although there's a chance when he respawns the audio of the explosions will still be playing, even throughout the final cutscene and after the mission ends, seemingly indefinitely.
