About this weapon

The B.D. & Co. Bolt Action Rifle is a five-round rifle in Red Dead Redemption 2 and Red Dead Online. Its bolt-action mechanism is built for quick shots and reloads, giving it a broad role across different environments. It uses Rifle Ammo, including Regular, High Velocity, Split Point, Express and Explosive rounds.

Arthur receives the rifle during Chapter 3's "Preaching Forgiveness as He Went". Once that mission is complete, every gunsmith sells it for $180. It can also be taken earlier in Chapter 2 during "The First Shall Be Last", when Arthur and Javier approach the Bounty Hunter camp after Trelawny distracts two men. One of the first bounty hunters in the valley can drop it if Arthur kills him before the pair is alerted.

Sheriff Curtis Malloy may carry a Bolt Action Rifle when Valentine is under gunfire or when Arthur is wanted there. Lawmen at public executions in Valentine and Saint Denis can also carry one. In Red Dead Online, all gunsmiths sell the rifle. Its rapid bolt action and five-round capacity make it suited to long-range fights against several targets.

Trivia

◆This weapon is based on the real world Krag-Jørgensen.
◆Unlike in real life, the Bolt Action Rifle is not used by United States Army in-game despite the Krag being the standard service rifle of the US Army from 1892 to 1903. It is only used by the U.S. Army guarding the train in "Our Best Selves".
◆Unlike the Red Dead Redemption version, which is incorrectly shown being reloaded with charger clips, this version is more accurately reloaded one round at a time through the side-mounted loading gate, the Krag being generally incompatible with charger clips, except a few rare experimental guns (The Norwegian Krags were able to use en-bloc clips).
◆The Bolt Action Rifle resembles more of a Karabiner 98k further down the barrel, instead of tapering like the Krag.
◆With a scope attached, this rifle becomes a good substitute for the Carcano Rifle.
◆A custom version of this weapon is frequently used by Bill Williamson, the only difference being the blued steel components are browned steel, possibly indicating that Bill's rifle is old and worn down.
◆While unconfirmed, this could indicate Bill's rifle was the rifle issued to him in the Army, and he refused to turn it in when being discharged.
◆Other users include Lenny Summers and Charles Smith as well as law enforcement, like bounty hunters.
◆This weapon can also be acquired from armed guards attending a hanging in Saint Denis.
