Player notes

At 3671 Whispymound Drive in Vinewood Hills, Tanisha visits Franklin and tells him that Stretch has handed Lamar over to the Ballas. Lamar is being held at the Paleto Forest Sawmill. Franklin resents having to rescue Lamar from another mess, but Tanisha asks him to do it for her and he agrees. On the way to Paleto Bay, Franklin calls Lester, who finds reports of a gang-run weed operation at the sawmill. Franklin asks Lester to bring Michael and Trevor in because the Ballas will outnumber him.

Franklin meets Michael and Trevor outside the sawmill, and the three men take separate assault positions around the property. Control shifts among Franklin, Michael and Trevor as they open fire on the Ballas and press through the mill. They clear the gunmen around the buildings, locate Lamar near the far side of the sawmill and reach him. With Lamar free, the group fights back towards the exit as another force of Ballas arrives. Once the way is clear, Michael and Trevor depart, leaving Franklin to take Lamar home.

During the drive to Lamar's house on Forum Drive, Franklin and Lamar conclude that Stretch has been working with the Ballas since prison and set Lamar up to prove himself. At the house, Franklin gives Lamar $50 and tells him to leave gang life behind, but Lamar accuses Franklin of abandoning him and failing to pay him for Devin Weston's cars. Franklin answers that Devin never paid either of them. As Franklin leaves, Steve Haines and Dave Norton confront him and order him to kill Trevor. Franklin refuses and tells them to use Michael, but Dave says Trevor will not trust Michael near him. Haines and Norton drive away, and Franklin tells Lamar to leave the matter to him.

Trivia

  • โ—†This mission is similar to Hostile Negotiation in GTA IV, Death Row in GTA Vice City and Search and Rescue in GTA Liberty City Stories, as they involve killing several enemies surrounding a building to save an associate of the protagonist.
  • โ—†This mission is also similar to The Green Sabre in GTA San Andreas, as both missions involve the protagonist saving the deuteragonist shortly after discovering through a close associate that one of their longtime friends has aligned himself with the Ballas.
  • โ—†Both scenarios also involve an ambush set up by the Ballas.
  • โ—†A brief part of this mission, showing Franklin assaulting from the first position with an AP Pistol, is seen in the gameplay trailer.
  • โ—†If the player drives past the sawmill without going to the yellow marker, the shootout will automatically trigger even if Franklin did not meet Michael and Trevor beforehand.
  • โ—†Regardless of what vehicle Franklin drives to the sawmill, his Buffalo S may appear alongside the other protagonists' personal vehicles.
  • โ—†When Franklin is watching over the sawmill with the binoculars, Lamar will be wearing his normal green shirt. But when the player finds Lamar, he will be wearing a black T-shirt.
  • โ—†If Franklin wears Families colors, a Ballas member will yell "He's from The Families, get him!"
  • โ—†When the player returns to Franklin's vehicle after rescuing Lamar, the radio station will be tuned to West Coast Classics and the song "You Know How We Do It" by Ice Cube will always play.
  • โ—†If the player goes back to the place the protagonists meet, Michael and Trevor's cars will be there. The player can access them, but destroying them will cause the mission to fail.
  • โ—†After saving Lamar from an sawmill, the player can take Michael's taligater and Trevor's truck for not falling the mission to take it from saving Lamar.
  • โ—†When Franklin asks Steve Haines about what he wants from him, sarcastically asking if Haines wants him to kill the president, Haines replies that it's "something more sensible", which is foreshadowing Ending A, which is also given by Haines.
  • โ—†If the player switches to Michael after this mission, he will be driving home on the freeway and making a comment on the distance between Los Santos and Paleto Bay. If the player switches to Trevor after this mission, he will be driving home as well, but singing "If you go out in the woods today, be prepared for a big surprise...", a line from the children's song "The Teddy Bears Picnic".
  • โ—†If the player checks Stretch's Lifeinvader page after this mission, they will see that Lamar has posted on his wall, saying that he's ending their friendship for good.
  • โ—†Furthermore, Lamar will also post on Tanisha's wall thanking her for sending Franklin to help him out.
  • โ—†It is possible to do this mission without hearing the phone call Michael receives from Dave after The Wrap Up, therefore missing the first discussion regarding killing Trevor.
