Ambulance (HD Universe)

The Brute Ambulance is a four-seat Emergency-class rescue vehicle built on a cutaway van chassis. In Grand Theft Auto V, it retains the large box-bodied form of its GTA IV predecessor, with a Brute Burrito-style cab, roof light bar, emergency lamps and rear treatment compartment. Its real-world comparison is a Ford E-class ambulance. The model uses a turbocharged inline-four and all-wheel drive, with a five-speed gearbox.

Three service liveries appear in Los Santos and Blaine County. Mission Row San Andreas operates a white, red and blue version, Los Santos Fire Department uses a largely red body with white striping, and Los Santos Medical Center runs the white and orange version. Ambulances commonly appear outside hospitals, and can also be summoned by calling 911 and selecting an Ambulance. They respond when the protagonist causes an NPC death. A rare LSFD example carries an LED light bar instead of the usual incandescent unit.

For a vehicle of its size, the Ambulance has improved handling over its GTA IV form. Its suspension is acceptable and it remains steadier under braking, sharp turns and fast corners, though its all-wheel drive does not give it much advantage away from paved roads. The body resists visible deformation better than might be expected, but the engine remains vulnerable and the front guard can detach in a minor collision. It is used as the game's medical emergency response vehicle, with a unique siren and engine note.
