About this vehicle

The Vapid Police Cruiser is a full-size four-door emergency sedan with room for four. In Grand Theft Auto V, it is the Los Santos Police Department's black-and-white Stanier-based patrol car, carrying LSPD markings and a small "Police Cruiser" badge on its trunk. Its design modernises the older cruiser and draws on the 1998 to 2011 Crown Victoria Police Interceptor. It can carry either an LED light bar or a rotating incandescent bar.

The cabin has police equipment, including a radio, weapon mounts and a steel-mesh divider between the front and rear seats. It has no civilian radio. A Sheriff Cruiser version appears in the countryside in white, while the Unmarked Cruiser is finished entirely in black. These Stanier-based versions share the same performance.

Police Cruisers most often appear in the parking areas of LSPD stations, and sometimes at the Paleto Sheriff's Office. They are uncommon in ordinary traffic, but usually carry two officers when they do patrol. The stiffened suspension reduces the chance of a rollover on level ground, though it gives up some turning ability. It accelerates better than the earlier model, has good traction, and withstands repeated impacts more effectively than the Police Interceptor, making it suited to pursuits.

◆Like other emergency vehicles with roof-mounted strobe lights, the Police Cruiser's siren will malfunction by wailing in random, distorted pitches if the strobe light housing is significantly damaged by gunfire, falling objects, or rolling of the vehicle. The second and third sirens noises are also disabled, leaving the car with only the malfunctioning siren noise.
◆On the GTA IV DVD case, a Police Cruiser can be seen. However, the Police Cruiser on the case has the headlights and front bumper of a 1998–2011 Crown Victoria, when compared to the in-game model. The same applies to the GTA V DVD case.
◆The fact that the Police Cruiser and the civilian version are not used very often in GTA V could be explained by the fact that real-life Crown Victorias have not been produced since 2011, with retail sales being discontinued in 2008. However, the Sheriff Cruiser remains the most used car by the LSSD in-game, much like how the Crown Victoria is a very common staple in the real life LASD fleet, and the Crown Victoria was still the most widely used vehicle by the real-life LAPD at the launch of the game. The car has mostly been replaced after a few years, but not by the Ford Police Interceptor Sedan, but rather by the Ford Police Interceptor Utility, based on the Ford Explorer, although many Ford Crown Victorias remain in service and are a more common sight than Taurus-based vehicles in reality. However, outside of scripted appearances, the Police Crusier will rarely respond to crimes committed by the player.
