About this vehicle

The HVY Cutter is an Industrial tunnel driller in Grand Theft Auto V, built as a mobile tunnel-boring machine rather than a conventional truck. Its yellow body carries a large drilling assembly at the nose, with articulated arms and five circular blade units. The cab sits on the left of the main body, while its industrial wheels use deep-tread tyres and dual wheels on the front axle. Its design is original, though it draws inspiration from a similarly fictional machine in a 1995 film.

The Cutter is a slow, heavy vehicle, heavier than a Dozer but lighter than a Dump. Rear-wheel steering lets it make tight turns, but its bulk makes enclosed spaces difficult to negotiate and it can lose control during turns. Its rear-mounted engine drives all wheels and produces the low industrial note associated with heavy trucks. The drilling blades do not operate, but the forward boring panel can crush vehicles, damage tyres, deform bodywork and shove obstacles aside.

The Cutter is used only during The Big Score's Obvious Approach. After Michael and the selected gunman are in position, Franklin takes control of it and drives it to the Union Depository. He activates the drilling equipment to bore a tunnel into the vault. Outside that mission, the vehicle cannot be obtained through conventional means. A non-functional Cutter also appears on an Army Trailer during Driller, carried by a Packer.

Trivia

◆The Cutter cannot destroy solid/non-destructible parts of map, so if the player manage to obtain one, it won't drill anything or won't even slice a car, this is because the wall from the Union Depository was scripted to be destroyed.
◆Unlike other construction vehicles, the Cutter lacks a radio, first person view, or cinematic view, just like the Submersible, these two, along with the Tractor, are the only three motor vehicles that lacks a radio. It still lacks a first person view in the enhanced version of GTA V, that makes the Cutter one of the few vehicles in the enhanced version that lack a true first person view.
◆Despite not having a first person view in the enhanced version of the game, the vehicle still features a functioning speedometer and tachometer.
◆While the Cutter is referred to as a tunnel boring machine, more realistic-looking tunnel boring machines can also be seen in the game, as seen here.
◆Despite being available for only a brief segment in GTA V, the player will still be able to honk the horn when drilling underground.
