Player notes
The Gila Monster is a venomous lizard species, Heloderma suspectum, found in New Austin. It has a broad head and neck, black eyes with round pupils, and a body of beaded scales marked in black, pink, yellow and orange. Its wide feet carry long, sharp claws. Gila Monsters are most active at night.
They live along the San Luis River, especially on its banks and to the north, and occur in Cholla Springs and Rio Bravo. Carnivorous Gila Monsters feed on small mammals, lizards, frogs, birds and eggs, as well as carrion. Among the weapons used to hunt them, the Varmint Rifle is suited to the animal.
A hunted Gila Monster yields Gila Skin, Herptile Meat and a Gila Carcass. The meat is edible, while the carcass is used in crafting. Its materials can be taken to the Trapper Shop to make the Legendary Panther Range Gloves and the Gila Monster Gambler's Hat.
