Player notes
The Parakeet is the Carolina parakeet, Conuropsis carolinensis, a rare small bird in Red Dead Redemption 2. It is based on the Carolina parakeet and feeds on shrubs, seeds and fruit from forest trees. Its green plumage blends into the grass around the swamps, and it can quickly take flight. A Bow with Small Game Arrows can bring one down.
Parakeets occur in western Bayou Nwa, particularly around Bayall Edge and Hagen Orchards. They also appear near the Tiny Church north of Lakay, along the northern shore of Hagen Orchards, on the larger islands east of Shady Belle, and around the Lemoyne and Bayou Nwa territory lettering. Both Arthur and John can kill them and collect their carcasses.
A killed Parakeet yields Parakeet Feather, Flight Feather, Exotic Bird Meat and a Parakeet Carcass, which can be sold to traders. Killing the first bird costs Honor and begins an endangered-species entry. After 15 are killed, the population becomes scarcer. Killing 25 completes the entry, records that the species has been wiped out, and adds a Parakeet drawing to the journal. The bird is not required for Skin Deep or Zoologist.

- ◆The Carolina parakeet had become rare by the middle of the 19th century. The last confirmed sighting of one in the wild was in 1910. The last captive surviving individual, a male named Incas, died at Cincinnati Zoo in 1918. In 1939, the species was declared extinct.
- ◆The Parakeet Extinction mission closes after 25 are killed and the bird no longer appears.
