Ramón Cortez

Ramón Cortez is a wanted Mexican outlaw with the Del Lobo Gang and the brother of Esteban Cortez, who leads the gang by 1907. He enters John Marston's story during the epilogue, when Sadie Adler learns from an encyclopedia salesman that Cortez has been seen around Painted Sky in Big Valley. Hoping to help John clear his bank debt, she takes him to the ranch to bring the fugitive in.

At Painted Sky, John and Sadie separate to search the property. Sadie forces her way into the house and finds Wróbel bound to a chair. He says Cortez has been staying there for several days and is hiding in the barn. Cortez ambushes John there, but John overpowers him. When Cortez gives up, Sadie identifies him and knocks him unconscious with her shotgun. John ties him up and loads him onto Sadie's horse.

They bring Cortez to Sheriff Harmon Thomas in Rhodes, where he tries to buy his freedom before John locks him in a cell. Del Lobo gunmen attack the sheriff's office and blast open the cell, allowing Cortez to flee. John and Sadie pursue the gang to the water, where Cortez attempts to escape in a rowboat. John damages its hull, forcing him back to shore. Cortez surrenders again, is tied up, and is returned to Rhodes. Thomas and his deputies take him away in a paddy wagon for Saint Denis, where he is to be hanged.
