Leopold Strauss manda Arthur Morgan da Beaver Hollow a riscuotere due prestiti insoluti. Arthur si reca prima a Three Sisters, dove J. John Weathers ammette di non avere denaro e offre invece le provviste nel suo carro. Prima che Arthur possa decidere cosa prendere, arrivano soldati dell'US Army in cerca di Weathers per diserzione. Arthur si unisce a Weathers nel respingerli, mentre il carro prende fuoco e le sue scorte invernali vanno perdute.
Dopo la sparatoria, Weathers chiama la donna nativa americana incinta che viaggia con lui. Arthur capisce che la coppia non ha più nulla e si rammarica di non essersi limitato ad aiutarli a riparare il carro. Weathers offre un medaglione d'argento come pagamento. Arthur può accettarlo o cancellare il debito, poi dice a Weathers di portare la donna in un posto sicuro prima di lasciare Three Sisters.
Arthur va alla miniera di Annesburg in cerca di Arthur Londonderry, solo per sapere dal caposquadra che Londonderry è morto. Il caposquadra lo indirizza a Sawbone Clearing, dove si trovano la vedova di Londonderry e suo figlio. Lei dice che suo marito si è ammazzato di lavoro cercando di saldare i debiti e che la famiglia rischia di perdere la casa. Arthur può condonare quanto dovuto, con o senza darle del denaro, e si scusa mentre lei rientra in casa.
Vergognandosi del lavoro che Strauss gli ha fatto fare, Arthur torna a cavallo a Beaver Hollow e lo affronta. Prepara le cose di Strauss e dice che non lo ucciderà, anche se pensa che dovrebbe farlo. Arthur condanna Strauss per aver approfittato di persone disperate, gli lancia del denaro e gli ordina di lasciare la gang. Strauss lascia Beaver Hollow con la sua borsa.

- ◆If Arthur does not collect the debt after starting the mission for Strauss, he will confront Arthur for not getting the money then he will leave the camp because of their situation.
- ◆If Arthur kicks Strauss out at night, Simon Pearson and Susan Grimshaw will wake up scared and move out of the way as Arthur is pushing Strauss towards their beds where he packs his bag.
- ◆After completing the mission, Micah will scold Arthur for kicking Strauss out. Abigail, Jack, Mary-Beth, and Pearson will question about his disappearance, whereas Susan won’t question Arthur’s decision, stating that she understands. Sadie and Swanson would be glad that he is gone. Bill and Tilly will question Arthur if he will kick one of them out like he did to Strauss, to which Arthur will assure the latter that he will not.
- ◆If Arthur follows Strauss after being kicked out of the gang, he will see Strauss and his horse disappear instantly, leaving behind his bag.
- ◆If you are fast enough or use mods, you can kill Strauss and his horse, but doing so will decrease the player's honor by 50%. This is the only instance in the game where the player's honor decreases by such a significant amount.
