Leopold Strauss sends Arthur Morgan from Beaver Hollow to recover two outstanding loans. Arthur first rides to Three Sisters, where J. John Weathers admits he has no money and offers the provisions in his wagon instead. Before Arthur can decide what to take, US Army soldiers arrive seeking Weathers for desertion. Arthur joins Weathers in fighting them off, while the wagon catches fire and its winter stores are lost.
After the shooting, Weathers calls out the pregnant Native American woman travelling with him. Arthur sees that the couple has nothing left and regrets not simply helping repair the wagon. Weathers offers a silver locket as payment. Arthur may accept it or clear the debt, then tells Weathers to take the woman somewhere safe before leaving Three Sisters.
Arthur goes to the mine at Annesburg in search of Arthur Londonderry, only to learn from the foreman that Londonderry is dead. The foreman directs him to Sawbone Clearing, where Londonderry's widow is with her son. She says her husband worked himself to death trying to meet his debts, and that the family faces the loss of its home. Arthur can forgive what is owed, with or without giving her money, and apologises as she returns inside.
Ashamed by the work Strauss has made him do, Arthur rides back to Beaver Hollow and confronts him. He packs Strauss's belongings and says he will not kill him, though he thinks he should. Arthur condemns Strauss for preying on desperate people, throws money at him and orders him out of the gang. Strauss leaves Beaver Hollow with his bag.

- โDuring Part VI, there are four bits of foreshadowing quotes that Arthur will remember during his final ride to camp in the "Red Dead Redemption" mission depending on his Honor.

- โIf Arthur does not collect the debt after starting the mission for Strauss, he will confront Arthur for not getting the money then he will leave the camp because of their situation.
- โIf Arthur kicks Strauss out at night, Simon Pearson and Susan Grimshaw will wake up scared and move out of the way as Arthur is pushing Strauss towards their beds where he packs his bag.
- โAfter completing the mission, Micah will scold Arthur for kicking Strauss out. Abigail, Jack, Mary-Beth, and Pearson will question about his disappearance, whereas Susan wonโt question Arthurโs decision, stating that she understands. Sadie and Swanson would be glad that he is gone. Bill and Tilly will question Arthur if he will kick one of them out like he did to Strauss, to which Arthur will assure the latter that he will not.
- โIf Arthur follows Strauss after being kicked out of the gang, he will see Strauss and his horse disappear instantly, leaving behind his bag.
- โIf you are fast enough or use mods, you can kill Strauss and his horse, but doing so will decrease the player's honor by 50%. This is the only instance in the game where the player's honor decreases by such a significant amount.
