About this vehicle
The Canis Crusader is a four-door military SUV based on the Mesa. It wears desert camouflage and military stars, with utility bumpers, hooks, black wheel arches and a soft top that usually covers the cab and rear compartment. Some examples are roofless. It has no badges or licence plates, and its black wheels match those of the civilian Mesa. Entering one provides a Carbine Rifle.
In Grand Theft Auto V, Crusaders appear at Fort Zancudo and may continue chasing intruders beyond the base before regular police take over. Trevor can also keep one from his fourth Rampage, including a roofless version if it survives. Warstock Cache & Carry sells it for $225,000 and delivers it to the buyer's hangar. In Grand Theft Auto Online, it spawns at Fort Zancudo and its outskirts, and Warstock Cache & Carry sells it for the same price.
Its acceleration and top speed are ordinary for its class, and it is somewhat slower than the Mesa, but it handles better and withstands heavy gunfire and repeated crashes. Oversteer at speed and its high centre of gravity can make it difficult on uneven ground. Los Santos Customs can repair it but cannot modify it. Online versions can carry explosives, and SUV races allow limited recolouring. The military uses Crusaders during The Paleto Score and Rampage: Military, while Online uses include Gunrunning supply thefts, Survivals, The Superdollar Deal and The Brute Force File.
Trivia
- โThe Crusader is the second military SUV in the whole Grand Theft Auto series. The first is the 3D Universe military-orientated Patriot.
- โThere was a bug that prevents the Crusader from appearing in the player's hangar after purchasing it from Warstock Cache & Carry. If the character owns any aircraft, the Crusader will not appear in the vehicle roster. This has since been patched.
- โIn the beta version of the game, the Crusader was the only vehicle in the Cargo Plane in the mission Minor Turbulence (as it was seen in the second trailer), but was replaced with the off-road Mesa.
- โUnlike the Barracks and the Barracks Semi, the Crusader features a mark on the cargo compartment that reads "Los Santos National Forces". However, like the mentioned trucks, the marks are mirrored on the right side.
- โAlthough Crusaders are available only in a desert camouflage, those that are obtained from Fort Zancudo will spawn in white. However, those that are purchased from the website will come with an applied color on the inner trimmings, usually a red color.
- โIn the original version, the Crusader could be stored inside any of the purchasable garages for each protagonist. However, in the enhanced version, it is no longer possible, as the car can be already stored in a hangar when purchased.
- โThe Crusader is classed as an SUV during Grand Theft Auto Online races, making it playable alongside other SUV vehicles.
- โAs the vehicle is classed as an SUV-class vehicle during races, the player is able to recolor the vehicle. Since the vehicle is plastered with a livery, the color changes only affect the engine bay, and the trimmings around the doors and rear compartment.
