Freight Train

The Freight Train is a four-seat Go Loco Railroad locomotive in the Trains class. It is a large four-axle road switcher, based chiefly on the EMD GP38-2, with a cab interior drawn from the EMD GP40-2. Its angled nose takes cues from GE wide-nose safety-cab locomotives, while its lowered rear hood recalls designs such as the GP30 and SD70MAC. Go Loco logos cover the body, and a Santos Steamer mark appears on the cab access door.

It runs on the rail network across San Andreas, hauling changing consists of well cars, Lando and D-Rail well cars, boxcars and tanker cars. The locomotive has a worn, rusty finish, with white and yellow bodywork and black pearlescent striping. In GTA Online, it pauses briefly at Palmer-Taylor Power Station. Its rendered cab contains seats, controls, displays and stickers, though control of it is generally unavailable.

The train is effectively indestructible in normal operation. It forces its way through obstacles on the tracks, withstands explosions and does not halt for anything ahead of it, killing characters it strikes head-on except Trevor while his Special Ability is active. Characters can ride atop the moving train, and tunnels can help them shake pursuing police. In Derailed, Trevor enters the cab, incapacitates the driver and briefly controls its speed and horn before control switches to Michael.
