Proximity Mine

The Proximity Mine is a throwable explosive in the Thrown class. Added to Grand Theft Auto V with the Festive Surprise update, it is a rectangular device resembling a traditional explosive and the Sticky Bomb. Its casing carries the marking "01/B", while the "M228 B2" marking refers to the real M228 training grenade.

On the original version of Grand Theft Auto V, the Festive Surprise update places Proximity Mines in the weapon inventories of Michael, Franklin and Trevor. In the enhanced version, Ammu-Nation sells them after "Friends Reunited" for $500 each. In Grand Theft Auto Online, Ammu-Nation also stocks them, and one can be found in the main lobby of the Control Tower at Fort Zancudo.

A mine sticks to surfaces and objects, then arms after three seconds once its thrower has left its proximity radius. It detonates when a pedestrian or vehicle comes close, including the person who placed it. A mine attached to a moving vehicle explodes after activating, while one attached to an inactive vehicle waits for somebody to use it.

The device has high damage for a thrown weapon, with a damage rating of 90, but limited range and accuracy. Unlike a Sticky Bomb, it has no conspicuous light marking its position, making it harder to notice. Before detonation it beeps, though the warning offers little time to escape. Mines remain in place when their owner travels away or dies, unless attached to a vehicle that despawns.
