Ball

The Ball is a throwable toy in Grand Theft Auto V, modelled as a baseball rather than a damaging weapon. It carries a "G.E.S." marking and the Western States Baseball League logo. Its weapon interface places it in the Thrown class, with a single ball available at a time, but it has no damaging effect and no range as a weapon.

Franklin receives the Ball automatically in his throwable weapon slot when he takes Chop for a walk. He throws it for Chop to chase, retrieve and bring back, making it part of their fetch activity and an activity required for 100% Completion. If it lands somewhere Chop cannot reach, Franklin reacts sympathetically to him, sometimes calling him "little homie".

The Ball is meant for fetch and entertainment, not combat. NPCs nevertheless treat a thrown Ball as a weapon and may start fights with Franklin. Throwing it around a police station or at a police officer gives Franklin a wanted level, and it can be used in convenience-store hold-ups. A lost Ball or one that falls into water can only be recovered by Franklin, though it returns when he takes Chop for another walk.
