Tear Gas

The Tear Gas is a Hawk & Little thrown weapon in Grand Theft Auto V. Each canister is bought from Ammu-Nation for $150. It is thrown into an area, where it releases a cloud that affects anyone caught inside it. Unlike a conventional explosive, it is intended to disrupt people within its radius rather than destroy them on impact.

The gas has a smaller area of effect than in earlier appearances. Targets standing directly over the canister take little damage, and those near the smoke take even less, but continued exposure harms players until they escape the cloud or die. NPCs caught in it collapse and asphyxiate, leaving them unable to respond, while other enemies attempt to stay clear of the gas.

Tear Gas is best suited to forcing opponents out of cover and denying access through a confined route. NOOSE officers use canisters against a player with a four or five star wanted level, throwing them toward cover to drive the target out. Its low direct damage and lingering cloud make it a control weapon within the Thrown class.
