Player notes
The Skunk in Red Dead Redemption 2 is based on the striped skunk, Mephitis mephitis. It is an omnivore, feeding on insects, fish, crustaceans, small mammals, grasses, fruit and carrion. Its scent glands produce a defensive spray that deters predators. Long-range weapons, including the Varmint Rifle, are suited to hunting it.
Skunks occur across nearly the whole map in a range of habitats, with Cholla Springs the exception. They are rarely encountered in Grizzlies West. They usually appear around dusk, when their black-and-white coats can be seen moving through the countryside.
A killed skunk yields Skunk Fur, Scent Glands, Stringy Meat and a Skunk Carcass. Its fur can be used in crafting, while the meat can be eaten despite its stringy quality. A perfect Skunk carcass is needed for the Wildlife Art Exhibition request, "A Better World, A New Friend," and must be mailed to Ms. L. Hobbs. After the Epilogue, Uncle can also request skunk meat for a stomach remedy.
Trivia
- โIf the player brings a skunk carcass to camp (or to Beecher's Hope in the Epilogue), gang members will make comments on it.
- โUnlike their real-life counterparts, skunks will not spray the player with their musk, and instead will flee if approached.
