The Smallmouth Bass is a fish species in Red Dead Redemption 2 and Red Dead Online. It is commonly encountered in northern rivers, where it favours natural bait over lures. Crickets are its preferred bait, and natural baits improve the chances of catching one. The fish is particularly active in rainy weather.
Smallmouth Bass appear across New Hanover, West Elizabeth, Lemoyne and New Austin. Known fishing spots include the Kamassa River, Lagras, Ringneck Creek, the eastern islands of Flat Iron Lake, the Dakota River near Caliban's Seat, the Upper Montana River and Lake Don Julio. A Legendary Smallmouth Bass is said to inhabit western Big Valley.
Larger and more resilient than Rock Bass, a hooked Smallmouth Bass puts up a stronger fight than that related fish. Catching one provides Flaky Fish Meat. Its combination of size and resistance makes it a more demanding river catch than Rock Bass, especially when it takes the bait in poor weather.
