Player notes
John Marston meets Ansel Atherton at the bank in Blackwater to discuss buying Beecher's Hope. With David Geddes willing to vouch for him, Atherton says the bank can arrange a loan, though its terms will favour the bank. Before the sale can proceed, Atherton sends John to inspect the property and remove the squatters who have been troubling the bank.
John rides across the Great Plains to Beecher's Hope and finds a ruined shack occupied by three men. They dispute his claim that the bank is selling him the land. John can offer them money to leave, and they take it and move on. If he tries to force the issue, the men draw their weapons and John kills them.
With the tenants gone, John returns to the Blackwater bank. Atherton has the loan documents ready, and John signs for the money and buys Beecher's Hope. Outside, Uncle recognises him in the street and learns that John and Abigail have separated.
Uncle insists on accompanying John to the new property and helping him establish the ranch, despite John's reluctance. The two men ride west from Blackwater to Beecher's Hope, where Uncle settles in alongside John.
Trivia
- โIf the player goes to the bank at night, John will peek inside a window into the bank but nobody is there. He then sits on a bench and sleeps while waiting for the bank to open.
- โIf the player deals with the squatters at night, as John is returning to the bank, it automatically turns into daytime.
- โIf the player hogties the three squatters before talking to them a cutscene will automatically be activated without the player ever having confronted them verbally. John is shown returning to Blackwater. And once he returns to Beecher's Hope the three hogtied men will be gone just the same way, as if he had killed them or paid them off.
- โUncle can follow the player anywhere until you arrive at Beecherโs Hope and can even dismount his horse to follow the player but will not mount the same horse as the player. Occasionally, a new Appaloosa will spawn and he will mount it.
- โAfter the mission, if the player has not completed "Gainful Employment" and returns later to speak with Uncle, John will be scolded for not having met Sadie yet. Uncle also mentions there are only 3 of them left, although at this point it's just the two men at the property.
- โIf the player engages in a gunfight, Uncle will pull out his Schofield Revolver or Double-Barreled Shotgun and start firing.
