The Flare Gun is a single-shot handgun added to Grand Theft Auto Online with the Heists update. It costs $3,750 and has a red body, firing red flares by default. Its design draws on the Orion Brand Flare Gun, with elements of the World War I British Very Pistol. Weapon tints alter the colour of the flare and its smoke capsule.
Its damage, fire rate, accuracy and range are all limited compared with conventional handguns, and every shot must be placed carefully. The flare can set pedestrians and enemies alight on a direct hit, or when they step onto the burning projectile. A flare fired beside a vehicle tyre can ignite it and cause the vehicle to explode.
The Flare Gun can be aimed straight upward in third-person view, something no other weapon permits. It has no Complex aiming reticule, like the Firework Launcher. Since the Smuggler's Run update, its flares can draw away homing missiles, giving vehicles without countermeasures a means of dealing with a lock-on attack.

- ◆The also appeared in Manhunt 2, another Rockstar videogame. Contrary to this one, the Flare Gun in Manhunt 2 is extremely lethal, but its ammunition is very rare.
- ◆During Pack Man, Trevor Philips mentions that he once killed a man by shooting his eye with a flare gun shortly after meeting Michael for the first time.
- ◆The Flare Gun's weapon icon and render was originally found in files for The San Andreas Flight School Update, suggesting the weapon was already finished.
- ◆Despite only appearing in GTA Online, the GTA V Rockstar Games Social Club still include the Flare Gun in the weapons category.
- ◆This is the only weapon in the game that can be aimed directly upwards. However, this only works when aiming in third person.
- ◆This is one of two ranged weapons in the game that lack any Complex aiming reticules, the other weapon being the Firework Launcher.
- ◆This weapon can be used to redirect incoming homing missiles, similar to those on aircraft or the Oppressor Mk II. This is especially useful for vehicles that do not have countermeasures, such as unarmed aircraft or ground vehicles.
