Metal Detector

The Metal Detector is a hand-held device in Grand Theft Auto Online, listed in the Handguns class. It is modelled closely on the Digiscanner from the GTA V Epsilon Program mission "Chasing the Truth", although this version lacks its antenna and uses different buttons. Its control panel has yellow directional controls and red and blue lights, while its screen shows ten blue distance bars and fourteen yellow LEDs.

It has no offensive function and cannot harm anyone. Its displayed weapon statistics give it zero damage, with fire rate rated at 67, accuracy at 10, range at 35 and clip size at 17. Instead of firing, it responds to nearby buried metal: blue lights signal a detection, red lights indicate none, and its lights and beeps accelerate as the target gets closer.

The device is used for Buried Stashes during the Gather Intel preparation for the Cayo Perico heist. It can only be equipped inside the marked search areas on Cayo Perico while the heist is being scoped. There, the detector guides the search through its display, flashing LEDs and rising beep, which becomes a sustained high tone when the buried object is located.
