Hammer

The Hammer is a Melee weapon classified as a tool in Grand Theft Auto V. It has a wooden handle and a black head, retaining the design of its earlier 3D Universe version apart from those details. The game treats it as a club-type weapon, close in use to the Crowbar, and the character swings it one-handed.

Its damage is fairly strong for its class, comparable to the Crowbar, but it swings faster and reaches farther. A properly spaced blow can catch a running target and may strike the face, knocking the victim out or killing them. The Hammer can also dent vehicles, tear off parts and, after repeated hits, damage a vehicle until it catches fire.

An unusable Hammer lies in the Maintenance Tunnel. In the enhanced version, Ammu-Nation sells the weapon after Repossession for $20, while returning Special or Collector's Edition players receive it without payment. It is used for close-range attacks and for damaging vehicles.
