The Hatchet is a Melee weapon in the enhanced version of Grand Theft Auto V and Grand Theft Auto Online. It has a brown handle, a grey blade and a small red, white and blue stripe near the head. Its shape resembles the Fire Axe.

In Grand Theft Auto V, Ammu-Nation sells the Hatchet for $750 after Trevor Philips Industries is completed. One also lies on the porch of an old wooden house in the western Grand Senora Desert, beside a Sawed-Off Shotgun. In Grand Theft Auto Online, Ammu-Nation sells it for $750.

The Hatchet is a compact, sharp weapon that deals heavy melee damage, killing with two strikes like the Knife and Antique Cavalry Dagger. Blood appears on its blade after it hits a pedestrian or another player. It can also be used from a motorcycle. After July 26, 2021, it is free for all Grand Theft Auto Online players.

Trivia

◆The animations for the Hatchet will differ between third and first person modes. In third person, the player will hit any area of the body, hitting the head while in stealth mode. In first person, the player will only hit the back of the enemy, even while in stealth mode. A possible reason for this is that hitting an enemy in first person would show more of the gruesome damage inflicted.
◆The Hatchet was originally exclusive to returning players, however as of Summer 2017 it is available to all players.
