About this vehicle
The BF Dune Buggy is a two-seat sand rail in the Off-Road class. Its long, stripped-back frame has four round headlamps at the narrow front, an open cabin without doors or windows, and an exposed rear-mounted engine beneath angular bars. It appears with or without front and side body panels, and some versions carry a small canvas roof. Its construction is that of a sand rail, while its appearance recalls the Bandito.
A rear-wheel-drive Flat-4 engine and five-speed gearbox give the Dune Buggy strong acceleration for its low weight and a respectable top speed. It remains composed in turns and keeps a useful amount of grip at speed, on tarmac as well as dirt. It recovers quickly after jumps, rolls and light impacts, but its light frame is vulnerable in collisions. The open cockpit also leaves its occupants exposed to gunfire.
In Grand Theft Auto V, Dune Buggies appear around Blaine County, including the Grand Senora Desert, Sandy Shores Airfield, Grapeseed, Raton Canyon, Paleto Bay, Mount Chiliad, Mount Gordo and Stab City. Cletus Ewing's vehicles can be taken after both of his encounters. At McKenzie Field Hangar, Trevor uses one for Arms Trafficking Ground missions. In Grand Theft Auto Online, Southern San Andreas Super Autos sells it for $20,000, and Agent 14 may supply one during bunker resupply work.

- โDespite its name, every aspect of its construction is actually that of a Sandrail.
- โThe Dune Buggy may be a nod to one of Rockstar North's/Angel Studios' earlier games, Smuggler's Run. This is further evidenced in its role in Oscar Guzman's arms smuggling missions.
- โThe canvas top will still make a flapping noise even when in the garage, away from wind.
- โCletus Ewing mentions that his Dune Buggy costs $4,000, which is inconsistent with the vehicle's true cost of $20,000 in GTA Online. This would mean that Cletus owns a second-hand/used example.
- โThe Dune Buggy has no license plates, which would make it illegal to drive on the road. While it could be argued it is not supposed to be road-legal vehicle, NPCs are routinely seen driving it around Blaine County.
- โBefore The High Life Update, the Dune Buggy could not be modified at Los Santos Customs. However, it is possible to modify it, except for the rim design.
- โThe Dune Buggy's engine is heavily inspired by the , sharing the fuel pump, air-cooling drum, spark plug layout, dual-carburettors, air filters, exposed verniers and timing belt.
- โThe same model is found in the Space Docker, Bifta, BF Injection and Ramp Buggy, which are also BF (Volkswagen) vehicles.
- โFor some reason, handling files mentions an item for the Dune Buggy. It is unknown what kind of item it is.
- โDuring the Arms trafficking ground missions, any weapon crate picked up will be stored in the vehicle's front chassis, though players cannot see Trevor actually moving the crates.
