Player notes
The Wolf represents Canis lupus in Red Dead Redemption 2, appearing as the Gray Wolf, Timber Wolf and Legendary Wolf. It is a large, lean canine with a broad muzzle, short ears, a short body and a long tail. Compared with coyotes and foxes, it is larger and heavier, with longer legs that let it move quickly through deep snow.
Wolves live, travel and hunt in packs, usually numbering three to six. They prey on elk, moose, deer, mountain goats, beavers and smaller animals, and also feed on carcasses. A pack's howl can precede its charge, while wolves that lose most of their number whimper and run away. They are most active around dawn and dusk, and may be found at Aurora Basin and Hanging Dog Ranch.
A killed wolf yields Wolf Fur, a Wolf Heart, Big Game Meat and a Wolf Carcass. Its meat is used as food, while its pelts and hearts are used in crafting. The Trapper uses a perfect wolf pelt for the Wilderness Vest, the Wolf Coat and the Legendary Moose Hunting Jacket.

- โLike other species such as bison, wolves notably faced an existential crisis by the late nineteenth century, as human settlement meant habitat loss, decreased prey availability, and extermination efforts from farmers and ranchers intent on protecting livestock.
